Activity:
Stand Up - Sometimes standing up for someone else is hard. It is important, but difficult. it can be heroic. Engage your students in a conversation about how upstander behavior is similar to and/or different from being a real-life hero. Were leaders of the civil rights movement, like martin Luther King, Jr. upstanders? How so? Students can conduct research about important upstanders in history, discussing how they made their decision to move from bystander to upstander.
