Welcome to our One School, One Book

Look Both Ways is broken down into chapters describing the different walking paths and journeys characters experience on their way home from school.

  • Jason Reynolds is a popular author amongst young readers. His books normally take place in an urban setting and are based upon his own experiences. Included in this site are some videos introducing Reynolds. We encourage you to watch them!

Below is information about how we will proceed as a school:

  • The kickoff is Wednesday, January 18 during Advisory. Please introduce the book and show the video. The video introduces the characters and will help prepare students for the book. We start reading the book on Thursday, January 19 with our English teachers. We ask the English teachers to help with the kickoff for their students.

  • Be sure to take some time to review the schedule so you know what you are responsible for. Some days are teacher led and some days the students will read on their own. We are asking a team teacher to be responsible for guiding, sharing, collecting, discussing, and/or grading any activity that is assigned when students read at home. We will leave this up to you to decide how you want to handle this.

  • Each day, a different content teacher will be responsible for delivering the assigned chapter. If you are a rotation or support teacher, keep in mind that some students may have already heard the chapter in a previous class that day. Just go ahead and read it again since it won't be consistent across the board.

  • Included with each chapter is the following:

    • A video recording. You may choose to use the recording or read it aloud.

    • Discussion Questions. You may verbally discuss the chapter, or you can assign this as written work.

    • An activity. You may choose to complete the activity for a grade.

  • Reading teachers may choose to use the end of book discussion questions or any other activity as a culminating project/grade for the book.
