Fist to five - how helpful was the activity yesterday in synthesizing your ideas and in thinking about possible solutions?
Next
I noticed when I was checking in with groups that quite a few people were struggling to determine the problem that needed solving. Consider this approach: choose a topic first (e.g. water scarcity, or plants) and then choose a country where that issue is evident.
Review paper submission guidelines and review in-text citations (pg. 17 of the handout).
Then
Studio time - continue researching your topic (as it relates to the country you chose) using the guiding questions provided in the handout. Remember to keep track of your sources.

Driving questions: What are some food security challenges?
Reminder - Field trip permission slips in Skyward for Woodland Dunes 5/18/26!
Research papers are due May 5th. Youth Institute May 20th.
Do Now
Take 2-3 minutes to think about the following question prompts:
1. What country did you choose? Can you point out on a map or globe where it is located?
2. What topic did you choose? How does it connect to what you have learned in Ecology?
3. What are some food security issues that exist in the country that you selected?
Then, write down your key points on a mini whiteboard. Put your name or initials on the whiteboard.
Next
You will be working in small groups. Take your mini whiteboard with you. Each person takes turns sharing with the group the thinking that was captured on the mini whiteboard with the rest of the group. Then, a timer should be set for three minutes. All group members (including the person sharing) should write down as many possible solutions to the presented problem as they can think of. Big, small, simple, or complex ideas are all acceptable. Write ideas down one idea per post-it note. After the time is up, share them all out with the group and discuss briefly. The presenter of the problem should collect all the post-it notes and choose the top 2-3 feasible ideas to further explore (in the next class).
Then
Studio time - continue researching your topic (as it relates to the country you chose) using the guiding questions provided in the handout. Remember to keep track of your sources!
