What are we?
created by students, for students.
created by students, for students.
SOAR (Students Organized Against Racism) at ETHS was started in 2012 by staff and administrators who wanted to create a space to talk about race and racism and give students the tools to thoughtfully do so. A group of interested students were brought in and gradually created a student-led, powerful club influencing the Evanston community. Today, SOAR is supported at ETHS by Corey Winchester, TaRhonda Woods, and other staff members.
SOAR provides programs that encourage students to talk and learn about the various effects of racism present in society. We also plan activities, advise the institution, and serve as advocates for changes which promote cross-racial understanding.
SOAR programs are coordinated by staff and the SOAR Student Leadership Board
We want to prioritize people of color through sustainable education by creating community through courageous conversations that resists structural and relational anti-Blackness and fosters open space for growth.
