Minority Student Achievement Network
We want to Prioritize POC and create a sense of community. Our goal is ending the opportunity gap, and trying to provide an affinity space for younger people of color that gives them the education that is lacking in the school curriculum. We aim to to attack the roots of the system.
MSAN stands for the Minority Student Achievement Network, a national coalition of multiracial, suburban-urban school districts that have come together to understand and eliminate achievement/opportunity gaps that persist in their schools. Across MSAN districts racial disparities on an array of achievement data demonstrate wide gaps in performance between students of color and their white peers. Additionally, the districts share a history of high academic achievement and connections to major research universities. The ETHS MSAN group attended this year's conference and formed a comprehensive action plan to bring back to ETHS called Supporting and Uplifting Community-Centered Educational & Social Success (SUCCESS) and continuing last year's initiative known as "The AGENCY."
Supporting and Uplifting Community-Centered Educational and Social Success (SUCCESS)
Aims to decrease knowledge and opportunity gap for families of color.
Compiling and distributing info about opportunities, classes, and programs at ETHS.
Creating a handout ‘cheat sheet’ with information for involvement for families of color.
Facilitating community events where families can easily access information.
“The Agency” MSAN Action Project seeks to develop a new standard of success that adheres to the measurement of achievement accessible to each specific student. This new standard is not intended to lead all of our students on a path of AP and honors courses rather to help our student achieve and reach success at individual academically rigorous levels. Our mission intends to impact minority and special education students through two main goals: changing school culture about achievement and increasing student agency in all spaces.
