We are proud to offer a German/American Exchange Program with a rich tradition. ETHS has partnered with Robert-Mayer-Gymnasium (High School) in Heilbronn, Germany (near Stuttgart) for over 35 years. The program is a true exchange. Our students spend 2+ weeks hosted by families in Germany, and the German students spend 2+ weeks hosted in Evanston.
We are currently in our 2025-26 exchange partnership. Students will be able to apply to the 27-28 exchange in spring of 2027. See slides below for more information!
In September 2023, we welcomed 25 exchange students from our partner school in Heilbronn, Germany. For two weeks, our guests stayed with our families and learned about our everyday lives as Evanstonians and U.S. Americans. Then, in June 2024 we completed the exchange by staying with our German partners in Heilbronn, Germany! Both experiences were truly memorable through both adventure and forging lasting friendships.
Our ETHS German Exchange Program is supported by the German American Partnership Program (GAPP), which is part of the Goethe-Institut. Every year GAPP awards us scholarship money to help our students go on our German Exchange and supports us in other ways as well. In January 2020, ETHS has been named a "GAPP School of Distinction" for our many years (30+) of international exchange that we have had with our partner school in Germany. This honor is reserved for only a handful of schools in the country and our program is excited to receive this honor!
