In this course students will be introduced to dance history and performance through a combination of techniques infused with dance fitness. Students will gain a deeper understanding and knowledge on how personal fitness relates to dance movement. Students will participate in dance genres including, but are not limited to improvisation, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and Musical Theater. Additionally students will be exposed to global dance genres from around the world such as Latin, West African, Stepping, and Bollywood. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural significance and history of each dance style, enhancing their appreciation for global dance traditions. Junior and Senior students can take this course once each semester, twice during the same school year.
Semester 1
Improvisation, Modern, Jazz, Bollywood, Line Dancing, Choreography, and Optional Styles.
Semester 2
Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Latin, West African, Choreography, and Optional Styles.
Course Considerations:
May take both semesters during junior and senior.
This elite-level dance course will focus on the exploration and application of dance choreography and technique. Anyone interested in this course MUST apply to be considered. Applying does not guarantee enrollment. Interested dancers will be contacted to complete an audition for the course. If students are on the fence about the course and auditioning, they must apply to reserve their spot. Students will be exposed to the following: guest artists, master classes, workshops, performances, festivals, and more. Students will also have an opportunity to learn about several post-secondary possibilities, and dance occupations.
Prerequisites
Audition, Active Member of the ETHS Dance Company or Departmental Approval
Age Requirement: Junior & Senior Status (Sophomores with Departmental Approval)
Repeat Status: May repeat semesters in the same Junior/Senior year. Approved Sophomores are recommended to participate in the first semester session followed by the Wellness course in the second semester.
