Emerge is a community of activists, changemakers, and leaders supporting each other to make an impact in Evanston.
Our mission is to:
Build empathy, justice, & community
Foster youth agency & leadership
Develop community-based and responsive projects that address issues that effect us and our neighbors
In this student-driven and -led program, participants drive community change through collaborative partnerships with local community organizations and with each other.
Initiative is a two-year program designed to build passionate leaders that help make change in Evanston. Participants engage in monthly workshops, community partnerships, and peer mentorship!
In year one, students learn the basics and history of organizing, strengthen executive functioning skills, and identify a community partner and issue they care about. In year two, students develop and implement a community-based group project addressing an issue identified in year one.
After developing and implementing a community project idea during Initiative, students can chose to move their projects into Sustainers, a space to continue, refine, and expand their projects with continuous support from peer mentors and staff.
Current Sustainers projects include: Restorative Justice Club, Accessible Essentials, Women in Sports, Math Equity, Running on Sunshine and MUSE.
