Concurrent enrollment allows high school students to take college courses and earn both high school and college credit simultaneously.
Steps for HS students to enroll in EVC courses
All of the steps below are listed on EVC’s Dual Enrollment website, but I have also broken them down below with extra tips:
Fill out an application to EVC. You will need to create an OpenCCC account first and then fill out the EVC application. You should receive an email from EVC within three business days with your EVC ID # (a 7-digit number). These slides break down the application process.
If it has been three business days and you have not received your emailed EVC ID number, please contact EVC’s Admissions/Records (408-270-6441 - available Mon/Tue/Wed 8:30am-4:30pm, Thu 8:30pm-5:30pm, Fri 8:30am-12:30pm - or email them at evcar@evc.edu) to inquire about the status of your application. Be prepared to give them your application submission confirmation number.
Have your parent/legal guardian fill out and submit a SAF Parent/Legal Guardian Consent Form. This only needs to be done once during your entire time at EVC. This is the link to the AdobeSign version of the form that gets routed to EVC’s Admissions/Records electronically, and it entails your parent/guardian giving you permission to take courses at EVC.
Submit a Special Admit Form with your course choices. This is the link to the form, which you need to fill out and submit electronically through AdobeSign (please do not download it as a PDF and email). When you complete the form and “click to sign”, a box will pop up and will prompt you to add information for “Participant 2”. That is where you add your counselor’s information (Melissa Goldsmith = goldsmithm@esuhsd.org, Nyia Roberts = robertsn@esuhsd.org, Sayako Uchida = uchidas@esuhsd.org, Lina Vasquez = vasquezmartinezm@esuhsd.org) so that the form gets routed to them to fill in their portion.
Once your counselor completes the High School Authorization portion and signs off on the form, you will get a confirmation email from “FCCC” letting you know that all parties have signed off on the form. It then gets routed to EVC’s Admissions and Records department, and then it can take up to five business days to be processed. You will usually receive another email from “EVC SAF” confirming once your form has been processed.
If it has been longer than five business days and EVC has not contacted you letting you know that your form has been processed and that you can register AND the courses you requested are not showing up in the petitions and waivers section of your self-service portal (Self-Service → Student Planning → Go to Plan & Schedule → Petitions & Waivers), please contact EVC directly to inquire about the status of your form: 408-270-6441 (available Mon/Tue/Wed 8:30am-4:30pm, Thu 8:30pm-5:30pm, Fri 8:30am-12:30pm) or email them at evcar@evc.edu
If you are listing any courses on your Special Admit Form that have prerequisites (you will see these listed in the course description), you will also need to fill out this form and send it to special.admit@evc.edu, along with your transcript and AP exam scores (if applicable). You can get a copy of your transcript by logging into ARMS → Infinite Campus → Click on the menu → Documents → ESU Grad Inventory. You can get a copy of your AP exam scores by logging into your College Board account and downloading your AP Score Report.
Set up your Self-Service account (this is like your ARMS portal, but for EVC). You will need to create your single sign-on to be able to access your Self-Service account. Here are the instructions for setting up your password to log in for the first time.
*Your MyWebID/Username is the first two letters of your first name, the first two letters of your last name, and the last 4 digits of your EVC ID, followed by “@stu.evc.edu”
So, for example:
Student Name = Oliver Sample, EVC ID# = 1091234
MyWebID/Username = olsa1234@stu.evc.edu
If you have trouble logging in (setting up your EVC email, resetting your password, etc.), please call the IT Help Desk at 408-270-6411. Please keep in mind that they are only open Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm and sometimes you have to stay on hold for a few minutes before someone answers. They are the only people who are able to reset your password or help with authenticator issues.
Register/enroll in classes. Once EVC has processed your Special Admit Form and prerequisites have been cleared (if applicable), you can register/enroll in your class(es) so long as you are within your registration period. You can find your registration date on your Self-Service account, or you can check the Academic Calendar. Here is a video explaining how to register and here are written instructions.
If you get a message saying “HS students need to have a Special Admit Form on file with A&R” when you are trying to add a class, please be sure of the following:
You are registering for a course that you have approval for, based on what you requested on your Special Admit Form.
You are registering for the correct term.
You are selecting a course at EVC, not SJCC. The section number should start with 200, not 100.
You have met the prerequisites for the course. If you haven’t, EVC did not give you permission to register for it.
You can check which courses EVC has given you approval to register for by logging into your Self Service account → Student Planning → Go to Plan & Schedule → Petitions & Waivers.
If you have met all five of the requirements listed above and are still getting that message, please contact EVC’s Admissions/Records department so that they can help troubleshoot the issue and help you register. Be sure to give them your name and your EVC ID number. You can either call them at 408-270-6441 (available Mon/Tue/Wed 8:30am-4:30pm, Thu 8:30pm-5:30pm, Fri 8:30am-12:30pm), email them at evcar@evc.edu, or if you are on campus, you can go to the Admissions/Records office and speak with them directly (fastest way of getting this resolved).
How to choose your courses
Check EVC’s class schedule for whichever term you are enrolling to see what is available
Read the course descriptions carefully. Check for prerequisites and transfer status.
Take courses that pique your interest! This may help you to discover what you may want to major in and/or pursue as a future career.
If you are using an AP score to meet a prerequisite, you will need to log into your College Board account and have a score report sent to EVC. (AP test credit for EVC) (AP test credit for universities)
If you are trying to work on lower division general education requirements, use this IGETC form as your guide.
If you are trying to work on lower division major requirements, use Assist as your guide.
If you are interested in earning an Associate’s Degree or Certificate, you can view information about requirements here. Please also be sure to schedule an appointment with an EVC Counselor to plan. For CCA students: if you can get an appointment with Rosa Pereida, that is ideal as she is our dedicated CCA Counselor, but if not you can meet with any counselor.
To actually earn your certificate and/or degree and/or to participate in EVC’s graduation, you will need to fill out petition paperwork with a counselor. Pay close attention to the EVC’s deadlines for this.
