Mr. Armando Politron leads our Automotive Pathway, a dynamic program designed to equip students with real-world, hands-on training for careers in the automotive industry. This pathway gives students a solid foundation in automotive technology and service, preparing them for entry-level positions or further education in the field.
In Automotive 1, students dive into the fundamentals of automotive service and maintenance. They become familiar with essential shop safety procedures and learn how to properly use general automotive service equipment. The course covers:
Lift Usage – Safely operating hydraulic lifts to raise and lower vehicles for inspection and repair.
Tire Press Operation – Mounting and demounting tires using a tire press.
Wheel Balancer Usage – Balancing wheels to ensure smooth vehicle performance and tire longevity.
Battery Testing – Using diagnostic tools to check battery voltage, health, and performance.
Tire Rotation – Rotating tires in recommended patterns to promote even wear and extend tire life.
Wheel Bearing Lubrication – Cleaning, inspecting, and greasing wheel bearings for safe operation.
Brake Inspections – Evaluating brake pads, rotors, and fluid to ensure optimal braking performance.
Tire Air Pressure Checks – Measuring and adjusting tire pressure for proper inflation and safety.
Oil Changes – Draining old engine oil, replacing the oil filter, and adding new oil to maintain engine health.
“I’m taking this class for future opportunities. If you find a job and you like what you do, you’re going to have fun with your life, instead of being forced to work.” ~Hector Barbosa, Freshman
“If you don’t know anything about cars, you could go to an auto shop and not even know what you’re dealing with, spending a whole bunch of money on stuff you don’t even know what you’re dealing with.” ~Cristian Calvetti, Senior
Through this hands-on experience, students not only gain technical knowledge but also build confidence in working with tools and understanding vehicle systems. It’s an excellent first step into the world of automotive technology!
