GoldenBrown
I’m back at the lake
But with someone new
I never thought a day would go by
Where I didn’t have you on my mind
He’s intelligent yet oblivious
I play it subtle
Or I at least I try to
But I can’t help by stare
When his brown eyes shift
The blue sky turing them golden
It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen
It’s summer now
The breeze is light
And the geese no longer annoy me
The sky is a clear blue
Just like when we’d come here
That’s past now
It was winter when I wrote the poem for you
But now I write for another
The one with brown eyes that turn
Golden
Secret Reality
Life is unpredictable
Mostly feeling invisible
You glide through life
Trying to survive this strife
School then home
Only making you feel so grown
They say “You’re so mature for your age”
But all you feel is rage
They don’t know
The real show
You spent years surviving
Never once thriving
Time after time
I create a new rhyme
While I just met you
I’ll hold true
To the promises we’ll make
Never to break
So I thank you
For letting me see the view
The grass with webs
The air filled with many smells
I wonder if you avoid the truth of reality
Or do you just stay neutrality
Is it just me who avoids my truth
Or do you try holding onto your youth
Thank you, for being in my life,
And letting me see the beautiful true view.
A Decade Later
Clear skies
A peaceful mind
You’re back in my life
I never thought I’d rise from that strife
A job and college
With newfound knowledge
Songs and poetry
Publishing my stories
Escaping my past
Something I thought would always last
I fought to restart
And heal my shattered heart
Going no contact
No longer having to act
Free at last
Something I hope won’t go by fast
Here with you
Watching the clear blue
The clear blue skies I spoke to
When I first lost you
Standing by the late
Forgetting all our mistakes
A decade later
You’re my forever translator
I may no longer be in my youth
But that I hope will be my truth
The Park Lake
I remember the days we came here
Returning now without you feels weird
The air is filled with a sweet autumn nature breeze
But it’s still winter yet
The sound of the geese used to annoy me
But without you here I find it comforting
Like a part of you still remembers those days with me
The cold cool water feels like time never passed by
Calm and soothing I remember you and her
I wonder about that night I wasn’t there
You didn’t show, staying home
She went under hoping to be saved
But the police were too late
You still blame yourself for that night,
Don’t you?
The lake looks soothing now
But when we’d visit together there was an unknown weight on your shoulders
You didn’t fail, you are not to blame
Maybe we’ll return together someday
Without the weight
Carefree and laying by the lake
The autumn breeze, cold waters, geese annoying us, but yet our laughter filling the air
A sight so beautiful it would make the angels weep
Our time was cut short
But someday we will find our way back to each other
Reliving those days before it all changed
Together, here at the exact same lake
