I Wondered If There Was Coral
The flowers were white, not sure
what kind, and smelled floral.
The sky was mostly clear but for a few
clouds, and there was no sun. It was blue
from here to the horizon.
I looked first at the people,
then back at me. All I knew was that the clothes were
all fancy.
They were probably the type to enjoy expensive
tea, but that wasn’t my cup of tea. (Maybe I just prefer sweetened coffee.)
The columns stretched far higher than my head, but I
turned my attention to the Lagoon instead. That’s when
I had a great epiphany.
I wondered what I couldn’t see and
I wondered if the aisle of water had coral.
I Don’t Want to Be Known as That
I don’t want to be that person
who you go to for a good laugh.
I don’t want to be that person
with nothing good in their epitaph.
I want to be taken serious.
I don’t want everyone to think
of me as just mysterious.
I want to be known.
I don’t want to be the middle man
and just sit there in between.
I don’t want to be just a fan,
but instead more like a friend.
I don’t want to be just
another shape in the crowd.
I want to be heard,
even when the music’s too loud.
I want to be seen.
Is that so much to ask?
I just want to be seen, for
someone to look past the mask.
I don’t want to be that person
who you see in the background.
I don’t want to be that person
with no one else around.
Can’t you see that I’m not happy?
Can We Love This Earth and Be Together? (Cento)
I believe I’m a good person
Because I fight the urge to strike
A match and set this place ablaze.
I think of what the world could be
If I rewrite the stars and decide
That you’re my destiny.
I find who I’m gonna be
By watching while the world
Keeps spinning ‘round.
I might as well be saying
I will watch cartoons until
My eyes go square.
I don’t want to talk
And I understand
The gods may throw the dice.
All I want is freedom
To guard you and
To guide you.
Oh, I dream of it all the time,
I dream we’ll go
Somewhere that’s…green.
I try to steer through it a million ways.
Can we buck up just enough to
See the world won’t fall apart?
Unprepared Visit to a Temple (microfiction)
Steve went on a journey to a far-off, barren land that consisted of camels and sand. There was a tomb that he didn’t see, and he fell in with surprised glee. He mined down beside a purple block, but before he got to the treasure, his parrot activated a trap.
