Potluck Day
On Thursday 20th November, ESIEE held its much loved Potluck Day. The event involves students sharing the dishes of their home country and having the opportunity to taste food from around the world. Students appeared to relish the opportunity, producing vast quantities of a variety of different delights, whilst enjoying the moment of sharing in the culinary traditions of their friends’ cultures.
The food offered came from many corners of the world. From Nigeria, there was Egusi Soup and Semo; from Ghana, there was Jollof Rice and Chicken; from Lebanon, there was Labmeh and Hummus; and from India there was Gajas ka Halwa and Aloo Tikki. Many deserts were also on offer, such as Sekerpare from Turkey or Eton Mess from Great Britain.
This event is one of the highlights of the calendar at ESIEE. One professor even commented: “It’s worth coming to ESIEE just for this”. It not only offers an opportunity to gain a precious insight into the different meals which exist around the world, but also enables students to learn more about their friends’ backgrounds. In relation to the wider course, the understanding gained from an event like this can only help our students when it comes to their work on modules such as Intercultural Management and International Project Management.
