Descriptor: Our SumFun Day Camp for children with developmental disabilities serves those ages 5-21 who qualify for services through their local county board of developmental disabilities. SumFun Day Camp strives to provide children and young adults with developmental disabilities, a typical camp experience. For some campers, this may mean that the child is included in the traditional day camp program. For others who need a greater level of supervision or medical care, they may be in a more sheltered setting at the Happiness Pavilion. Campers build confidence and lessen their anxiety as they become familiar with the day camp routine and staff. Learning the physical boundaries of the campsite offers campers a sense of security. Establishing a daily routine of activities on which they can rely allows campers to gain a sense of control, socialization and age-appropriate friendships.
