Self-paced course open from Aug 1, 2024 - May 30, 2025


As a Google Certified Educator, you gain confidence with digital learning strategies and Google tools, facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity, and join the Google certified family. By reading, watching videos, doing activities, and completing tasks with Google Core Tools, you'll learn how to integrate Google in your classroom. By the end of this course, you'll be ready to take the exam to become a Google Certified Educator Level 1.


This is a 13 part series designed to provide you with the training necessary to obtain your Google Educator Level 1 certification. Once you have completed all units in this series, you will need to sign up and pay for the Google Level 1 Exam ($10) at eduexams.withgoogle.com. DO NOT register too early for the exam as you have a limited window to take the exam. Register for the Level 1 exam after you complete the entire coursework.


Each unit consists of two parts:

Part 1 of each unit includes reviewing materials from the Google Fundamentals Trainings website, completing the online unit review, and then submitting a screenshot of your results to each course. Google Fundamentals Training Modules for Level One Certification


Part 2 of each unit includes completing a quiz or task associated with specific Google Core Tools.

9/5/24 - TRANSFORMING MATH EDUCATION THROUGH STUDENT-CENTERED LEARNING

As part of the High Quality Instructional Materials in Math Initiative, this session is grant funded and free to K-12 math teachers.  Participants will also receive a free manipulative kit. 


Student-Centered Math offers educators a new and engaging way to approach their instruction and provides a shift in instruction that allows students to do the thinking while engaging in mathematical application and communication to increase their ability to reason and problem solve.


Participants will learn about the integration of NCTM’s Effective Teaching Practices, Standards for Mathematical Practice, and Building Thinking Classrooms to build the foundation of a student centered math classroom.  We will be learning routines and protocols specifically for mathematical discourse, modeling in mathematics, and problem solving and reasoning.  Participants will be developing resources to use for immediate implementation.

The Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES) Evaluator Training will prepare an evaluator of school counselors, as defined by the role you serve in a Local Educational Agency (LEA), for effective, high-quality and consistent school counselor evaluation using the Evaluation Framework for School Counselors as adopted by the State Board of Education in April 2016 (updated December 2022). To become a certificated evaluator of school counselors in the State of Ohio, an individual must successfully complete a one-day training delivered by an OSCES state trainer. Upon successful completion of the training, a certificate of completion will be issued for verification. The training will provide a better understanding of the OSCES Framework and Model and allow practice of skills and sharing of resources and best practices in educator evaluation. This one-day session is required for all evaluators of school counselors. It is highly recommended that the evaluator and school counselor(s) attend this session together.

Improving literacy across a school or district requires clear and unified efforts. The Literacy Improvement Pathway consists of ten purposely ordered areas of focus for leveraging literacy and equity for improved student outcomes. The Literacy Improvement Pathway course was developed by the ODEW Literacy Team based on the research of Dr. Timothy Shanahan.


Participants will understand the critical importance of each stop on the pathway through a review of evidence-based practices and related resources to assist with leading literacy in a school or district.

9/19/24 - Unlocking perspectives:  a dyslexia simulation

The dyslexia simulation is designed to increase awareness of the difficulties and frustrations that people with dyslexia (specific language disability) and those that struggle with learning to read encounter daily. It is hoped that this experience will lead to greater empathy, understanding, and provide insight as to what a possible day in life feels like for those that struggle with reading.

9/20/24 - EARLY CHILDHOOD ITINERANT NETWORK (sst region 2)

The Early Childhood Special Education Itinerant Network is designed to provide a forum for itinerant staff to join together to discuss the challenges and successes that are inherent in the Itinerant Service Delivery Model. In this supportive environment, participants will learn from each other as they share stories, problem-solve, and explore current evidence-based strategies while striving toward improving their coaching and consulting skills. Participants from Lorain, Erie, and Huron Counties will receive a free copy of Building Blocks for Teaching Young Children in Inclusive Settings, Fourth Edition.


This network is intended for Early Childhood Itinerant Intervention Specialists and Related Services Providers who serve Preschool children. Early Childhood Administrators/Supervisors are welcome to join in.


This training is Ohio Approved. Participants will earn 8 OCCRRA professional development hours over four sessions (9/20/24, 12/6/24, 2/21/25, 5/2/25). Registration is not required to attend this network.

These times will also be used to update you on guidance from Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement, Ohio’s Dyslexia Guidebook, and any other relevant updates in law related to or in support of literacy.

A cohort of educators will embark on an in-depth professional development in the Science of Reading to support all learners.  Participating in this cohort will increase their knowledge of tools used to assess and teach language and literacy skills to every student.  This learning supports any curriculum as it is intended to bridge educators' deep understanding of literacy with strategies that are evidence-based to support learning.  In Unit 1, we will focus on understanding “the challenge of learning to read.”


Participants will complete the online learning units/sessions between each Face to Face training (a pacing guide will be provided).

For those who are new you can do a hybrid version prior to attending Sept 25.  This means you would spend 3-4 hours online developing your understanding of the models and then join us from on the 25th to deepen your understanding and complete the physical activities.
