On October 17, 2025, The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce awarded grants to seven regions statewide that correspond to the state’s OhioMeansJobs regions. The purpose is to enhance access to career-technical education and provide high-quality advising and mentoring for students in middle grades 7 to 10. The initiative is guided by regional steering committees and focuses on expanding early career exploration and real-world learning opportunities. The network is part of a broader effort to prepare students for indemand careers through collaboration among educational institutions, including K-12 districts, career centers, compacts, JVS and comprehensive schools, as well as higher education institutions, and a broad range of community partners and businesses focused on preparing and supporting the workforce pipeline and economic development.

The ESC of Northeast Ohio is leading the Northeast Ohio region that includes stakeholders in 14 counties. During the next two academic years, schools and districts will integrate career awareness and exploration opportunities and foundational career courses for students in grades 7 and 8. Courses in middle grades will align to high school pathways that offer certification and dual credit for students. Community stakeholders will provide supports for students through classroom speakers, business site visits, college and career readiness activities, mentoring and resources. It is anticipated that this regional effort will create a seamless, student-centered pathway from early career awareness to postsecondary success, strengthening both individual opportunity and Northeast Ohio’s long-term workforce and economic vitality.
