Candidates requiring to pass this exam, will participate in TExES preparation BEFORE STR preparation. Access to the STR course requires content TExES to be passed.
HB3 Science of Teaching Reading requirements applies to the following certifications:
Core Subjects EC-3
Core Subjects EC-6
Core Subjects 4-8, ELAR (English Language Arts) 4-8
ELAR/Social Studies 4-8
ESC-20 is partnering with ESC-4 (Houston) in having TOPP candidates participate in the Science of Teaching Reading online preparation. Candidates must keep pace with the course or will be exited from the course. Once candidate completes the first module during the first week and begins the second module, candidate is committed to finishing the course. TOPP is billed for the entire course once a candidate begins the second module. Should a candidate not complete STR course requirements and need to restart the STR course after having begun the second (2nd) module, candidate will be required to pay the STR fee again to restart the course. It is very important to keep pace with the syllabus and complete course requirements once beginning.
Candidates successfully completing modules 1 – 10, will be provided access to 240 Tutoring to complete modules and pass practice test with 90% correct responses. Candidate to communicate with TOPP Staff to verify meeting practice testing criteria and obtain test approval for the STR (293). Candidates are required to complete all twelve modules.
Course consists of 15 weeks (Regular Track).
Candidates participating in STR online training required to stay engaged and focused with completion the entire course week course. You must submit all assignments on time and pass all assessments. Failure to complete will result in repayment of $550 feesto reopen the online course.
STR online coursework is in addition to the 300 -hour coursework requirement for Standard Certification.
Upon completion of STR course candidates will receive a training certificate of 30 hours.
TOPP candidates with certification exams requiring the STR requirement cannot be placed on a teaching certificate without having their STR and content exams passed.
Science of Teaching Reading (293) are limited-administration TExES exams. Scores for this exam are reported within 28 days of testing. The earliest date that you could receive your score report is noted in the schedule posted in the Pearson website. Score reports are posted to candidate accounts at 10:00 p.m. CST.
