2021 Online Workshop Experience
During September, the Koka students were excited to participate in an online workshop run by the White Horse Theatre Company. The White Horse Theatre Company, based in the United Kingdom, is a professional and highly regarded group of actors that performs all around the world, primarily for ESL students. Due to the current restrictions of the Corona pandemic, the actors have been performing workshops for students of all ages and abilities. The aim of these workshops is to enhance the students' confidence and motivation in speaking and listening to English. The workshops are conducted in such a professional and engaging way, that all Koka students enjoy participating!
We hope to welcome back the White Horse Theatre Company in 2022 for another series of workshops, and hopefully, live performances!
Sustainable Development Goals
Throughout the summer vacation, the 5th grade students did a wonderful job creating some colorful and appealing posters based on SDGs. The 5th grade students have been studying about the various SDGs throughout the year and are showing a lot of energy, ethusiasm and passion on this topic.
During the summer vacation, the students from the third to sixth grades participated in our annual Recitation Contest. This year the contest was conducted in an online format - students recorded their recitation and then uploaded them, ready to be viewed by our judging committee. Good job to all the participants!
Recitations are a great way for students to build confidence in English!
"You can speak well if your tongue can deliver the message of your heart."
-John Ford
For the recitation contest, students were part of the assessment process. Students watched and listened to each of the recitations, and anonymously assessed their peers across various categories - including expression, voice and pronunciation.
Upper grade students assessed their peers with the google forms using online and left comments on each student. These comments will be sent to the contestants.
At Koka Gakuen, we like to encourage the students to try new activities - and to do their best and enjoy these activities. Recently, the students partcipated in "Da Cau" - a traditional Vietnamese outdoor game.
Despite its difficult nature, the students participated with a lot of energy and enthusiasm!
"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

The grade six students at Koka Gakuen enjoy participating in a cultural exchange with students in a Catholic school in New York City. This exhange includes making posters, videos and quizzes to be shared with students of the same age in a different country. This is not only a great way to improve the students' English ability, but also a wonderful opportunity to learn more about a foreign culture.
After recently completing an exciting online Zoom lesson about Australia and an Australian Christmas, our students made thank you cards to send to our wonderful exchange partners in Australia. This Zoom class was a wonderful opportunity for our students to not only practice their English but to also learn about another culture and customs.
Each year our students participate in a Christmas Mass. This mass, peformed by a visiting priest, is a wonderful hour filled with prayer, greetings and singing! It is a great way to finish the second term!
