Welcome to the 6th graders' page. Please take a look at some of the great work that the students have been doing.
<English Art Challenge: 2020>
During the school closing, we did online lessons with the students. In English class, we staged an "Art Challenge" for everyone. They could join this event on a voluntary basis. (This event was actually held in America, at the Getty museum. )
We did this event within our school. Students chose their favorite artwork and pretended to be the person in the art. They enjoyed this and did a great job!!!
<Cross Curriculum lesson; Religion X English>
=FInd something awesome project=
We always start our class with a prayer in English. The religion teachers tell us the phrase from the Bible every month. In English lessons, we translate it into English and say it everytime. In April, the phrase is "Rejoice always pray without ceasing in everything give thanks.“ 6th graders find happy things in their daily life, and write it in their English diaries. We set the goal to find 200 awesome things. It is great to find out that our life is full of some happinesses. The words from God teach us very important things.
<Cross Curriculum lesson; SDGs X English>
=Help Orangutans and Protect Forests=
We invited the professor from the University. We learned about the orangutans and that they are facing danger because people are using palm oil in their daily life. We found there are a lot of problems and these problems are related to each other, and think about the solutions what we can do from SDGs aspect.
<Cross Curriculum lesson : Art X English>
Recently the 6th graders have been making some very interesting presentations using the "Pages" application on their iPads. This project involved the students finding their "artistic look-a-like" on the Google Arts & Culture program. The students really enjoyed this project and they did a great job!
Also, students drew their portraits in the art class. They examine their faces in English class again and write some sentences bout their faces.

<Homepage Project in 2020>
6th grade students made the home page about the Japanese New Year. We showed it to the school in New York and got comments from the students there. We communicate with them through ICT!!!
Each student made the introduction movie about Japanese New Years Culture. They use iPads and create original movies.
Koka Gakuen is very fortunate to have students from Mitaka's International Christian University visit the elementary school. During these visits, the university students assist in English classes as part of their university studies. The elementary students are always very excited to welcome them to their class! The students also use this as an excellent way to practice their English conversational skills in a fun and engaging way!
The sixth grade students are always enthusiastically trying to improve their English presentation skills. At times this is done by doing standard face-to-face presentations, and at other times, the students create presentations using a variety of innovative methods. One such method is creating presentations using apps such as PhotoSpeak, which allows students to record their voice and creatively insert it into images to create entertaining videos. This helps students improve their IT skills, as well as their English speaking skills... A win-win! Combining different subjects is an effective way to contribute to each student's educational outcomes.
