Fishing and aquaculture

Role of fishing in the economy of different countries

Fishing and aquaculture are important economic activities for Tunisia whose primary sector represents more than 13% of GDP. Moreover, fish is very present in Tunisian cuisine (couscous with grouper ...), a Tunisian consumes about eleven kilos of fish per year! In addition, more than 50,000 people depend on this sector.

However, rising sea temperatures are already affecting fish populations. Indeed, some species have disappeared, replaced by invasive species such as the blue crab and jellyfish...Some fishermen profit from it while others lose their job!

It is therefore very important to fight against the increase in temperature (reduce our carbon footprints: favor means of transport, no longer use plastic bags, etc.) We must also fight against invasive species (set up crabs lockers...)
