This plus That by Amy Krouse Rosenthal - Whether it's "wishes + frosting = birthday" or "birds + buds = spring," each equation is a small delight. This Plus That proves that life's total experience is always greater than the sum of its parts. (cross curricular)

Splitting the Herds - A Corral of Odds and Evens by Trudy Harris (Miss Emma's cows just can't stay put! Each time they wander into Cowboy Kirby's yard, he uses odd and even numbers to count the herd. Then he sends all the evens back to Emma and keeps the odds for himself. Kirby doesn't notice that his herd keeps getting smaller while Emma's grows larger. Emma doesn't want to hurt her friend's feelings by explaining his math mistake. How will she solve their problem with odds and evens?)
How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? by Margaret McNamara (Here is an adorable picture book for curious kids, which explores skip counting and estimation in a fun pumpkin-themed classroom experiment. This book makes a wonderful read-aloud companion to any math or science curriculum, and it's a fun way to reinforce counting skills at home.) Great book for grade 1 and 4 Science)
One by Kathryn Otoshi - Health div 1 & 2, Gr 1 & 2 Social Studies/Community, Great book for Pink Shirt Day (When no one speaks up, things get out of hand — until One comes along and shows all the colors how to stand up, stand together, and count. As budding young readers learn about numbers, counting, and primary and secondary colors, they also learn about accepting each other's differences and how it sometimes just takes one voice to make everyone count.)
Zero Book by Kathryn Otoshi - Health div 1 & 2, Gr 1 & 2 Social Studies/Community, Great book for Pink Shirt Day (Zero feels empty inside. She watches One having fun with the other numbers. One has bold strokes and squared corners. Zero is big and round with no corners at all. "If I were like One, then I can count too," she thinks. So she pushes and pulls, stretches and straightens, forces and flattens herself, but in the end she realizes that she can only be Zero. Animal Boogie by Debbie Harter - this is an appealing ‘Barefoot Book’ that involves patterns in actions, lyrics and melody in a jungle setting. It is available as an animated story at www.barefootbooks.com.
The Mitten by Jan Brett - the side bars on each page as well as the order in which characters enter the mitten demonstrate sequence of story. Quantitative (amount of animals entering and leaving the mitten scene) and spatial information (size of animals and stretching of the mitten to fit them) is illustrated in this story.
Chasing Vermeer by Blue Baillet - the main characters help to solve a mystery (science) involving a Jan Vermeer painting (art). They use pentominoes (math) and written messages (language) to find clues that guide them to solve the mystery.
Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett - a young girl finds a magical box of yarn that she uses to transform her community. Patterns, size of clothing knitted and the concept of infinity are math based activities to explore. This book also addresses important health concepts relating to personal relationships and how bullying is handled.
Math Curse by Jon Scieszka - the main character discovers just how much math is needed to function in every area of school life as well as how it is used when navigating through a day in the life of a child.
