There were some positive and negative ways that my life has changed, but I always tried to think on the positive side of it. Even though 2019-20 was a tough time for me. I know that 2022 will make a huge difference and everyone will come back strong. 2022 will be an EYE opening experience!

2020 was a hectic ride, trees burning,
Hornets swarming and Meteor warnings.
We were isolated from the public for a while
But we got through this with a smile.
While we lost many friends and families
and protested for equal rights.
Many of us were not going
to let last year affect us
without a fight.
Last year was like a running deer in the dark
many crashes along the way
but came down like an ark.
While this year started rough
we were already tough.
The world started to become normal.
Many students went back to school.
While very few stayed at home.
We would eventually all be in school in person.
Vaccines were sent out
and many were vaccinated.
Please take the vaccine and advocate for it.
So soon we can all come together
and throw away these terrible masks.
Just hang on tight a little bit more.
We will all fix this crack
with the Kakiat Covid Comeback.

Dear past self,
2020 and 2021 was a hard year for us. We lost family and friends, have lost some of the things we took for granted, went through many hardships during those times, and life seemed like a broken pencil, pointless because of all the suffering we were seeing and going through. We weren’t expecting to feel such heartache at such a heavy and fast time. Although we have overcome it in 2022 we still think about it daily but we have come a very long way in 2022.
In 2022, there are families reuniting after a year of isolation, grandkids are hugging their grandparents, people are making up for all the time they lost with family and friends, and we are more united than ever as both a nation and as humanity. 2022 brings so much joy and is taking away from the heartache that we have been through. We have adapted to no masks anymore because everyone in the United States has the vaccine. Covid-19 is slowly abating, cases have been extremely low, and the world has become more placid.
Kakiat came back to the school year 2021-2022 strong like a lions’ roar. School is now in-person and we’ve made many friends throughout the time that you’re coming inside of school. Can you believe that we are now in 8th grade, our final year in middle school. Kakiat has done a lot for us and our community especially during the very hard moments in the pandemic. They have gone to using more environmentally friendly methods and have started to give more awareness for mental health which has made school more comfortable for us and other students. Kakiat has been there for us through the high and the low and has used a lot of our ideas and voices to make it a more open place for us students to learn and you will not be disappointed for what the future in Kakiat holds.
