Saturday, September 10, 2022, the JBHS Eco Club picked up 1000+
pieces of trash along the Norwalk River.
On September 10, 2022, the JBHS Eco Club participated in their 5th ever cleanup, hosted by the Save The Sound organization. In just over an hour and a half, the group removed 1,149 pieces of garbage, ranging from glass shards and plastic tiles to miscellaneous beverage jugs and sheets of plastic baggage. Other rubble highlights include a sink basin, a car headlight, a volleyball, and a pile of coke cans, all found on the site.
After speculation and discussion with other cleanup members, the group reasoned that a vast proportion of the trash on the site most likely landed after being tossed out of cars on the highway bridge just above the river. Drivers must not have been aware of the $110 fine associated with littering on the site, as indicated by a sign planted on the riverbank.
In addition to their work along the Norwalk River, the JBHS Eco Club will be attending another Save The Sound cleanup at Jennings Beach this Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 9:00 am-11:00 am. Any other interested parties are welcome to join.
