Seesaw
Seesaw is an app that we use across the whole school for sharing learning and celebrating achievements. Each child has their own journal on Seesaw where teachers and pupils are able to share their learning in a number of ways. Parents/carers can then access this at home and be kept up to date with their childs' progress and achievements across their learning. There is also an opportunity for pupils to upload posts as part of their homework or for sharing wider achievements that their class teacher can then see on the app as well.
Every year the school offers opportunities for parents to receive feedback on their child’s learning achievements. The school hosts three Parents’ Meetings across the session where parents will get an opportunity to discuss progress, attainment and next steps for learning. Before each Parents' Meeting there will be a Reflection Week where pupils will reflect on different aspects of their learning and achievements and share this through Seesaw for parent/carer feedback.
In June, parents will be issued with a Summary Report on Seesaw, outlining their childs' progress in Literacy and Numeracy along with a comment from the class teacher.
Assessment
Assessment is carried out on a daily basis in class. Pupils are encouraged to assess their own work (self assessment); the work of their classmates (peer assessment); and to discuss their work with the teachers (teacher assessment). In addition, teachers will do more formal assessments in all curricular areas, and in particular in Reading, Writing and Numeracy & Maths. All assessment data will be used to support and influence the planning of pupils’ future learning activities and next steps.
On an annual basis, pupils will undergo Standardised Testing in Maths and Reading. At P3, P5 and P7, East Renfrewshire Council take responsibility for the marking and collation of results. At P1, P4 and P7 pupils complete Scottish National Standardised Assessments online with instant feedback available to teachers to inform next steps in their learning. In this way we can track results, progress and attainment for all pupils throughout their school life.
If the school has any concerns about a pupil’s learning based on classroom observations or other assessments, this will be discussed during parents’ meetings. Alternatively, we may contact parents out with the designated reporting times to discuss any issues which arise. This will always be done in a sensitive manner and may lead to short term or longer term interventions to ensure progress occurs at the pace which suits the individual child.
Achievements
Achievements are celebrated in a number of ways across the school in individual classes and as a whole school.
At weekly assemblies we celebrate our Values Champions. Those that are consistently demonstrating one of our school values. There are also Visible Consistency awards for those demonstrating one of our three Visible Consistencies: Quiet voices, Walking in the school and Meet and Greet.
Pupils, Parents and Carers are regularly encouraged to share any achievements from out with school which are celebrated at assemblies with Wider Achievement certificates.
In classes teachers may incorporate awards systems for the whole class and celebrate achieving these targets together. Pupils will receive positive notes home to recognise successes.
We operate a House system within the school. All pupils will be allocated a house with siblings being in the same house as each other. Throughout the year there will be different house events to win points. Points are also awarded to houses for receiving the certificates mentioned above. Sport's Day is always a big occasion for gaining house points as well. Each term, all pupils in the house with the most points will receive a reward.
