Numeracy - The Adders

"We have been learning about chimney sums to add big numbers with hundreds.

We were using the river on the floor to make chimney sums with dice.

We also played Connect 4 Addition Edition!

It's made me more confident than I was before and it's inspired me to learn more maths!"

Numeracy - The Subtractors

"We have been learning about function machines. We have found adding and subtracting easy, but divide and multiply can be a bit tricky. We used our fingers to count and worked together to do the harder questions. We tested each other by making our own questions too."

Numeracy - The Dividers

"In the Dividers we have been learning about numbers up to 10,000 and numbering from smallest to largest. We have been doing chimney sums up to one hundred thousand as well. Our favourite new activity was rolling four dice two times and putting the numbers into a chimney sum for our partner. We wrote it on a giant paper river outside our classroom.

We have been learning new strategies to help us add up to 10,000 which we thought would be hard, but it wasn't after all!"

Numeracy - The Multipliers

"We have been learning about volume and capacity. Capacity is used to measure the potential of what the object can hold. Volume is what it has in it.

We walked around the school and guessed the capacity of objects and if they would hold more or less than 1 litre.

Our favourite activity was actually one we did at home for home learning! We got 4 containers and we had to estimate how much it could hold. Then we would see how much it actually can hold. It was harder than we thought to guess correctly!

In summary, we had a lot of fun learning about capacity and volume!"

Numeracy - Problem Solving

"In problem solving we have been looking at different strategies like draw a picture, make a list and find a pattern.

Our favourite challenge was the football question. We had to work out if there were 3 colours of top and 3 colours of shorts how many combinations of football clothes there were. Then once we had done that we had to do it again but with 4 colours of top and 4 colours of shorts. And again with 5. We found the pattern was times the number of tops by the number of bottoms.

We also looked at pizza toppings and had to do the same thing. There were 5 toppings so how many combinations could we make. Because we knew how to do it this question was easy!"

Literacy - The Weasleys

"Our favourite activity so far has been task maps. Task maps is comprehension where we get to choose what we do. There are eight things to choose from like answering questions, making a poster, definitions of tricky words or discussing something about the book with a partner. Some are easy and some are harder.

We were given a new book to read called Oceans Alive. It tells us about the animals in the sea and how to save the oceans. We have also read Aladdin and the Genies which is about a boy who meets a merchant and finds a lamp with a genie inside. The genie can make the boy travel anywhere he wants!"

Literacy - The Wimpy Kids

"In class we have been reading Puss in Boots. It's about a cat who tricks the king into making his owner rich. At the start of the book, Sam thought the cat was useless, but in the end he learned that he was amazing. We liked reading the book and our favourite part was when the cat threw Sam into the water!

We also read Animals on the Move which is about migration. If you don't know what it means migration is when animals alone or in large numbers move from one area to another so that they can find food or have babies. Our favourite animals to learn about were the Leatherback turtles and the Caribou - did you know that in North America they are called reindeer? We learnt lots of new facts such as animals migrate really long distances to get to another place and that Pacific salmon die in the same exact place where they were born."

Literacy - The Fantastic Foxes

"We have been reading the book The Camel Fair. It was about a girl called Sarina who was visitng her dad's family in India. She saw loads of camels, busy streets and people drinking chai milk. We liked the book because of all the facts about camels and I have even tried the drink! (Hamza)

We also made fact files about lions. We had to make notes with facts then use them to make a poster. We made amazing posters and they're on the wall!"

IDL - Growth Mindset

"We have been learning about how to make a negative mindset into a growth mindset.

We made fixed mindset and growth mindset posters showing how they are different.

We made flowers where we put all the things we are good at and the things we want to get better at.

We also made hands. We traced around our hands and drew patterns on them and cut them out. We got a piece of paper and picked two colours and coloured the paper and then stuck the hand on.

We made daily affirmations like I am a good friend or I am loved or you be you.

We talked about all our emotions and made emotion monsters!"

IDL - Growth Mindset Live Call

"We got to do a live video call. We learned about 4 different types of mistakes:

Silly is where you don't mean to do it and don't learn anything from it like dropping something or putting your phone in the fridge.

Lightbulb are where we don't mean to do it but we learn a lot like making a calculation error in maths.

Stretchy are where you mean to do it and learn a lot. For example, someone who has just moved to a new school and is trying to make friends, but does this by joning in with something they know is wrong like throwing rocks at a window. They know they shouldn't but do it anyway, and then learn from it.

Unsafe are where you mean to do something but don't learn from it like running across a road or sliding on the stairs.

At the start they asked us to tell them a mistake we made recently. Miss Itcovitz said about how she forgot to give us our passwords for our Giglets homework. Brian the man read it out and said hi to us it was so funny!"

PE - Team Games

"In PE we have been playing games like cups and saucers, rob the nest and lots of different types of tig like banana tig and chaos tig. We also played games with a hula hoop where we had to pass the hoop around the circle without breaking hands. It was really hard at first but much easier the second time.

We have been learning how to work together and talk to each other to do better in team games."

French

"We have been learning about French numbers as you can see on our wall. We each got a number to turn into a character and had lots of fun! We also got to play lots of French numbers games like 21 and Bingo, and some on the Chrome Books."

STEM

"We got a choice of lots of different STEM projects and we voted for our favourite one - the egg launcher. We brought materials into school and built our own egg egg launchers. It was brilliant! We launched our eggs and Mokshal and Leo d F's group tied and went the furthest. Bilal's group broke their egg before it even launched it was so funny!

We have also been learning how to use Tinkercad which is a computer programme where you can design models. Mr Keir helped us to do it by tutorials. It was hard, very hard, but now it's easy.
