Chinese New Year (Lunar Celebration)

Since returning from the Christmas break, the class have been learning about how people celebrate Chinese New Year. In 2024, we learned that it fell on Saturday the 10th of February.

To celebrate Chinese New Year, we learned about the many traditions that take place over this festive time. To celebrate Chinese New Year, people eat lots of food and hold a special spring clean.

There are 12 animals such as the ox, mouse, dragon, sheep, pig and monkey.  They also set off fireworks and put up red items around the house. This is to be considered as good luck. Children also receive red envelopes containing either money or sweets.
