Numeracy

In maths, we have been learning about money, fractions and time. We have also done lots of measuring with weight and capacity. More recently we have started analysing and presenting data. We have continued to work with numbers to 100, with a particular focus on partitioning,  number sequences, vertical calculations and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Please look below for some pictures of our numeracy learning.

Literacy

In literacy, we have been using dictionaries to clarify the meaning of unknown words as we read. We have also been learning the differences between fiction and non-fiction texts and fact and opinion. We have been answering literal and inferential questions and creating some of our own questions about a text. As we read, we have been trying to start to use tone and expression in our voices.

We have learned about bossy verbs and openers and were able to include these when writing instructions. Everyone also enjoyed identifying Scots words as well as reading and creating our own poems while we learned about Robert Burns!

Miss Mclean had to make a tough decision when judging all your amazing booktatos!

World Book Day

'At World Book Day we loved bringing in our booktatos'

We went to Mrs Allan's class to read Oi Frog and created our own 'Oi 2Bravo' book!

We have been sharing lots of our own stories that we have made in class and at home during circle time!

We also enjoyed sharing our favourite books at our first book club session📚😊

Life Below Water

We have been doing a lot of learning about Scottish sea life and what we can do to save the animals in our oceans.

We first looked at maps of Scotland to identify different areas of water and different animals that might live there.

We worked in groups to research and find information about Scottish sea creatures.

We had a teams call with a marine biologist from the Marine Conservation Society

We created lots of different sea animals using our hands!

We also started to create our floor book!

Then we got to show off all our hard work to our parents at the Under the Sea Showcase!

Look at some of the pictures below.

Science Centre Road Show

The Science Centre came to visit us and taught us all about how our bodies digest food!

They showed us the journey of food through our bodies and we looked at the different organs that help us to digest food. A few children were chosen to be volunteers!

'We did a race game with a ball and a long sock that was the intestines'
