Equi-Power shortlisted for SCVO’s Scottish Small Charity of the Year!

20/06/2024 by Amanda Namey

We may not have brought home the coveted award, but we felt like winners after our charity was shortlisted to the final four outstanding charities from over 500 nominations!

Recognising our community impact as a small charity, the shortlisting noted our work with over 150 individuals in 2023 and showcased the successes of our participants in both competitive & therapeutic endeavours. Our equestrian vaulting team became Scottish National Para Champions at the Scottish Equestrian Vaulting championships, going on to become RDA UK’s Virtual National Champions in Autumn 2023. Meanwhile 3 of our riders became RDA Scottish dressage champions, 2 on their first competitive outing.

Alongside these national sporting achievements, Equi-Power diversified existing educational and therapeutic services, responding to post-pandemic community need. Launching new initiatives supporting refugees, dementia clients & teenage mental health we worked with local schools, care homes and local authority and private referrals, offering opportunities to individuals with disabilities to increase activity levels, make friends, improve mental and physical health and increase confidence. Our incredible sessional volunteers donated 1847 hours of volunteering time to support services in 2023, with 80 hours of support provided by volunteers who have disabilities themselves. Our community reach extended to offering 2 undergraduate and one post- graduate degree placement, alongside being Duke of Edinburgh and Saltire Award providers for young people.

We are hugely proud of everyone’s achievements and were thrilled to be shortlisted and to highlight the work of RDA groups nationwide!
