Child Outreach Screening
Child Outreach Screening
In Rhode Island, the Child Outreach Screening Program serves as the vehicle for screening children ages 3- 5, prior to kindergarten entry. Screening serves as a first step in identifying children who may have a disability or developmental delay and require intervention.
Children are screened across several areas including hearing, vision, speech and language, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, global development and social and emotional development.
Student in the State Pre-K program are screened within the first 4 days of school and the results are mailed to families/ guardians.
Should your child not pass 1 or more of the screens the Preschool Coordinator will reach out to the family to schedule a referral meeting to the Special Education Evaluation Team to review the results and discuss next steps.
