In Rhode Island, the Child Outreach Screening Program serves as the vehicle for screening children ages 3- 5, prior to kindergarten entry. Screening serves as a first step in identifying children who may have a disability or developmental delay and require intervention. 

• Children are screened across several areas including hearing, vision, speech and language, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, global development and social and emotional development. 

• Student in the State Pre-K program are screened within the first 4 days of school and the results are mailed to families/ guardians.

• Should your child not pass 1 or more of the screens the Preschool Coordinator will reach out to the family to schedule a referral meeting to the Special Education Evaluation Team to review the results and discuss next steps.
