Watch this video and see if you can hear the ABA form. The song will play twice.
Form in music is how we organize songs into sections. We use capital letters to represent the sections of music. For example, ABA means that the music starts one way, has something different in the middle and goes back to the same starting section at the end.
A great example of a song with ABA form is "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star":
A: Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are.
B: Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky.
A: Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are.
Now that we know what form is, we can talk about rondo form. Rondo form is a popular form used in music. It uses 3 different sections in a specific pattern. ABACA. The A section is heard at the beginning, in the middle and again at the end. There are two contrasting sections in between each A section. Watch this video to hear an example of Rondo form.
