Career and Life Management at Dr. Anne

Anderson High School

Our Approach to Learning

At Dr. Anne Anderson, our students explore their interests, passions and skills while learning and making connections to potential career choices and post-secondary study. Student Services is here to assist students with personal development, educational planning and career exploration. Students can see counsellors by appointment or on a drop-in basis.

Courses Offered

Career and Life Management helps you develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for well-being in our rapidly changing society. You will learn to make well-informed decisions in all aspects of your life. CALM is organized around three main themes: self-awareness and health, resources related to independent living, and career and life choices.

  • Career and Life Management (CALM) for 5-credits includes the diploma required 3-credit CALM course with two 1-credit CTS courses to expand and enrich learning. The course is offered during the regular school day.

  • CALM Block 5 provides the 3-credit course to meet diploma requirement and is offered through a combination of meetings, online learning, and take home assignments/modules.

  • Physical Education 10 plus CALM

To earn an Alberta High School Diploma, students must complete Career and Life Management (CALM). Grade 11 and Grade 12 students who have not yet completed Physical Education 10/Wellness 10 or CALM Diploma requirements must select the missing course(s).

Work Integrated Learning

Students may access additional learning opportunities to ready themselves for the world of work or to explore a potential career pathway. Students interested in these learning opportunities may contact Student Services or school administration for additional information.

  • Work Experience gives you the chance to explore possible careers and get credits for paid or volunteer work. You may earn 3 to 10 credits at each level, but a maximum of 15 credits may be counted toward the 100-credit requirement for a Diploma.

  • Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) allows you to work as an apprentice to earn credits toward a high school diploma and accumulate hours toward your ticket in one of Alberta’s 50 designated trades.

  • Campus EPSB helps you gain hands-on experience and industry credentials while you earn high school credits. That means you could be at a different high school for a semester taking a course that reflects your current interests and future ambitions.
