Hello Families!
My name is Marie Nitz and I am the Transitional Kindergarten teacher in District 86. I have been teaching in this district for 7 years and graduated from Bradley University with an Early Childhood degree and Special Education/ESL endorsements.
Miss Sue is my classroom aide and has been teaching at Don D Shute for 4 years. She has an Associates Degree in Early Childhood and has been working with children ages 3-6 for over 30 years.
We could not be more excited to be working with such a wonderful community and teaching this very special class which is so unique and necessary for some of our students before entering Kindergarten! This is the second year of Transitional Kindergarten and it has been a big success with regards to test scores for the students the following year in Kindergarten.
In our class, we are a family. The moment you and your child step through our classroom doors, we are a team. I will spend this year advocating for you and your child while teaching them core pre-kindergarten skills to make their upcoming year a success. Confidence, academic skills, and emotional regulation are our main goals and this class is a wonderful bridge to helping your child feel excited about going to school and ready for Kindergarten.
