How do you get screened for it?

Eligibility and Enrollment

East Peoria District 86 offers various early childhood programs, including those for children ages 3 to 5. 

• Age Requirement: The child must turn 5 before September 1st to be eligible for Transitional Kindergarten 

• Does NOT have an IEP (Individualized Education Program) that targets academic skills.

• Screening: The district conducts an Kindergarten Screening for children from late 4 to 5 years old. This is essential for identifying children who may benefit from special services or the Transitional Kindergarten program. Areas assessed include:

  • Speech/Language

  • Social Behavior

  • Motor Skills

  • Readiness Skills (academics)

Screenings will occur in the spring at Headstart, during Kindergarten Round-up, and at participating daycares. If your child is Kindergarten age, but does not attend one of the facilities that participates in the screening, please contact Shute School administrators at 427-5500 to set up a screening.
