Solidify and unify what a learner looks like after going through R5.
Our original capstone plan was to develop a graduate profile. We hoped to align it with our new transcript and maybe get started on a draft of a capstone.
We wanted to define what is an R-5 graduate and how can he/she demonstrate growth and learning towards/of this profile?
We began with defining our graduate profile.
We want to use the capstone as a culminating experience for a competency based educational model.
We will use the end of year planning during this phase of remote learning and to pull in other staff.
Reflect on Adaptability
We didn’t have to adapt except making meetings on Google Meet.
Reduced/eliminated hands on experiences :(
Schoology was already a platform that we were using to deliver materials; this set our students up for success with online learning. Students appreciated less flexible/more predictable assignments in a remote setting as compared to in-class learning. Capstone would be a great avenue for students to succeed in future remote-learning scenarios. We already used a shared Google Drive and would assign weekly tasks that could be done independently, so moving to the video chat platform was not a huge adjustment.
Reflect on Growth
We learned how to make purple hexagons for the graduate profile (Giff did!).
We struggled aligning all the work our school does so that it points in one direction.
Next Steps:
We learned that assessment design had to consider where we wanted learners to be as functional citizens in society not just highschoolers in a building.?????
Our graduate profile led us to a capstone project which will allow learners to show that they have met the definition of an R-5 graduate. They can celebrate their learning through a passion project. We successfully created a Graduate Profile, Mastery Transcript Framework and worked with all staff to fine tune Grad Profile/Crosswalk Courses and opportunities. Next we need to backward by design our Capstone with rubrics/flow charts and supporting documentation. We need to decide what platform we want to use to organize portfolios and capstones.
