REHEARSALS FOR ALL STATE EVENT PREP: See Choir Calendar in Choir Handbook
The state of Colorado allows Juniors and Seniors to audition for the All-State Choir. Auditions will occur in late October, so preparations are to be made soon after school begins. The actual All-State event will occur in late January ALL STATE CHOIR AUDITIONS WILL BE IN-PERSON this year at Cherry Creek High School.
Requirements to audition are as follows:
Preparing a SOLO to perform before a judge
Rhythmic and melodic SIGHT-READING
SCALES (Major, melodic minor, harmonic minor)
TRIADS (Major, minor, Augmented, diminished) and
INTERVAL skills (M3, P5, m6, etc.)
We will be working on these areas IN CLASS, ONLINE, IN GOOGLE DRIVE, & BY USING THE ALL-STATE CHOIR WEBSITE which now has TRAINING/RESOURCE VIDEOS PROVIDED THIS YEAR, in special rehearsals after school (TBD), and practice tracks via online audio files will be made available to work on at home for personal practice. Although individual preparation time will be spent between the teacher and student, the majority of the practice time and responsibility is up to the student (at home with his/her practice track audio files). Auditions are competitive and require discipline and preparation, but the result is well worth the effort—ask anyone who has been a part of it! This is a very rewarding experience for students whether they make it through the audition only, or make it all the way to All-State Choir. ALL CHOIR MEMBERS WILL ONCE AGAIN HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF ATTENDING THE COLORADO ALL-STATE CHOIR PERFORMANCE, AS THE EVENT REMAINS IN DENVER (WELL, WE HOPE WE CAN GO IN January)!
