Lektionssteg / Steps in the lesson: 

1. Lektionsuppvärmning / Lesson warm up / Hook / Review from previous lesson

Lesson 1: (Adding and subtracting exponents/powers).

Warm-up - Reviewing what makes up an exponent and what exponent means. Learners will have turns explaining in their own words, what they understand exponents/powers to be and how to identify them.

Lesson 2: (Multiplying, dividing exponents and bases to the power of 0).

Warm-up - Reviewing adding and subtracting exponents. As the learners enter the class, they will receive a exponent problem to solve. The teacher will then randomly select two or three learners to show how they solved their problem.

i.e 5 x 2³ - 4 x 3²

5² + (-3)³

(-2)² - 1²

Add exponents together to show expanded multiplication. 

When numbers with exponents are multiplied by each other, you can represent the result easily by adding the exponents together. 

The base number remains unchanged. 

This rule only applies if the bases are the same.
