The first term for our very own school chess club has been an eventful one.
This fall we registered the club with Sveriges Schackförbund who generously sent us 20 chess boards, chess books and a lot of great instruction material. Every week we've been practicing new tricks and exercises and having a great time while improving our chess skills! Before Christmas we had a lovely last meeting of term with a fika and fun activities.
If you're interested in joining the chess club you're welcome to drop by the library on Tuesdays between 14-16. It's a great way to meet other chess enthusiasts and practice your skill!
Here's a tip for something to do during Christmas break: Visit the most amazing children's library in town - TioTretton!
TioTretton is a library located in Kulturhuset in the center of Stockholm and you're only allowed in there if you're between the age of 10-13. The last couple of weeks Ms. Hermannsdottir and Ms. Bergqvist have taken all yr. 5s for a visit and the students have loved it there!
Besides plenty of brilliant books (including lots of comic books!) there's loads of other fun stuff to do at TioTretton: try on theater costumes, draw and make crafts like dream catchers and badges, play chess and other games, use computers, play the guitar, enjoy the awesome view over Sergelstorg from the cool seating arrangement in the windows, and much more!
Check out this great video:
And here's their website:

Thank you yr. 4 and 5 for your creative Christmas decorations!
If you want to add to the festivity feel free to drop by for a session of cutting and gluing!
The IES Tyresö Comic Book Competition will end in less than two weeks - you still have a chance to be in it!
Here’s how it works:
Create a comic book story of a minimum one page (but it can be as long as you want!) Your story should also have a front cover. The story can be either in Swedish or English and you can work together if you like!
Hand your work in to Ms. Hermannsdottir, who will pick a winner for both BEST STORY and BEST COVER with the help of other comic book loving teachers!
DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 11th and winners will be announced before Christmas.
Cool comic book related prizes will be given out to the winners!
GET YOUR DRAWING PENCILS OUT AND START CREATING YOUR AMAZING STORIES!
Congratulations to our brilliant BookFace winners: Grace and Iris in 4A, Sofia in 4C and Daniel in 4C!
What a fantastic job you've done!
In celebration of Children's Book Week and National Reading Day the library has an ongoing project where students can express what they love about reading. There's still plenty of book notes left if you want to make one; all will go up on the window as a display about your positive thoughts on reading!
To celebrate National Reading Day (on November 16th) the library challenges you to a BookFace contest!
The rules are easy:
Match your face (or other part of your body depending on the cover!) with a book cover and snap a picture!
Send your entry to gulla.hermannsdottir.tyreso@engelska.se
Your pictures will be put on display in the library and a prize will be given for the best picture!
Deadline Nov. 17th (winner will be announced the week after)
