What is Media and Information Literacy?
Media and Information Literacy (MIL) recognises the important role of information and media in our everyday lives.
MIL enables us:
- to understand how media and other information providers function in our society.
- to critically research, analyse and evaluate their content.
- to become an informed user and producer of information and media content.
MIL is translated to MIK in Swedish. MIK stands for Medie- och Informationskunnighet.
IES Linköping's library is an MIK-bibliotek, which means that we focus on Media and Information Literacy and use resources from Statens Medieråd

Chapter 1. "Pupils should be able to keep their bearings in a complex reality, where there is a vast flow of information and where the rate of change is rapid. This is the reason that study skills and methods of acquiring and using new knowledge are important. It is also necessary that pupils develop their abilitiy to critically examine facts and relationships, and appreciate the consequences of diffirent alternatives."
Chapter 2: "The school is responsible for ensuring that each pupil on completing compulsory school:
- can learn, research, and work independently and together with others, and feel confident in their own ability,
- can make use of critical thinking and independently formulate standpoints based on knowledge and ethical considerations,
- can use moderna technology as a tool in the search for knowledge, communication, creativity and learning"
