Project Objectives
Concisely list and prioritize the project objectives and constraints
High Priority Objectives
Demonstrate that acquiring data indicating the location of where the golf ball strikes the club and the magnitude of force the golf ball strikes the club face is achievable.
Second Priority Objectives
Demonstrate that the angle at which the club strikes the golf ball can be determined through acquired data.
Other Constraints and Issues
Sampling fast enough to acquire usable data that shows details of how the club strikes the golf ball (need a sampling rate greater than 10 kHz)
Sensors need to withstand the impact of a golf ball (capable of 10,000 g at impact)
WOW Design Solution
Strike location, force, and angle are all measured
Data is converted and numerical values of position, force, and angle are outputted from a DAQ
System is installed in a modern style golf driver
Golf club swing motion is tracked
Club face damage/fatigue resulting from plastic deformation is monitored
Risk Reduction Strategy
List areas of risk and strategy that will be used to eliminate risk really in the design process.
Test different types/designs of sensors
Test data acquisition to ensure sampling rate is fast enough
Use a small scale model and apply incremental forces
Intermediate Milestones
Identifying meaningful intermediate milestones is a critical for effective project management. Together with your sponsor identify such milestones, and specify specific performance requirements you aim to meet at each milestone.
