Major Design Components
Prongs
Pushed forward by the trigger to bend and close the staple during use. Holds the staple with help from the hook.
Hook
Long casing to enclose the prongs and provide sufficient reach for intended ENT applications. Flat top side to provide clear vision overhead for the surgeon.
Handle
Provides a surface for the prongs to push the staple against so it bends consistently in the middle and in the shape desired. Holds staple with help from the prongs.
Shaft
Main body of the staple. Provides a grip for the surgeon to be able to use the device comfortably. Encases both the base end of the shaft and the top end of the trigger to allow them to work together.
Trigger
Component that, when squeezed, pushes prongs forward. Activation method of the device. Utilized ratcheting system.
Future Addition: Torsion Spring/Clip
Located between the handle and the trigger. Resets device to desired starting position after each use.
