Progress Report Week 7
Since we spent a week focusing on making prototypes last week, we are quite familiar with the manufacturing process. On the other hand, this design change makes the prototype easier to manufacture than before.
After meeting with the sponsors, we need several modifications to the current design. FIrst, the size of the storage tank needs to be cylindrical. The goal of the storage tank is to store about 1.5 cc of injection agent. Second, the device changed from a 9 hollow needles pins to 14 hollow needles pins. Third, the overall height of the microneedle cartridge will be reduced to 3 cm.
There are also some other minor changes and we will upload the CAD file for your reference after we finish.
This week's plan is based on some changes from last week. After meeting with the sponsors last week, we made some changes to the previous design at their request, and the overall design idea remained unchanged. So we will make changes to CAD this week, and then make the prototype as soon as possible.
The goal of the next two weeks is to manufacture the prototype using polycarbonate, and work on the report and presentations.
Overview of the Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
The team fabricated the prototype of the 9 hollow needle pin with the storage tank.
Accomplishments from Previous Weeks
3D printed the attachment rods
CNC machined the storage tank, the mold for the needles plate.
Discussed with sponsors on finally the designing parameters/requirements

Goals for Next (or this week 7) Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Manufacturing the storage tank and the exterior cover layer (at machine shop CNC)
Dimension of the silicone insulation layer.
Modified the final design
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Arranged weekly meeting to update and assist with the project.
Finalized all the dimensions for the designing components.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Primary focus was to explore top priorities; talk to the sponsor about it.
Changed to the storage tank designing parameters
Approval of the rod attachment mechanism.
Risks and Areas of Concern
The structure or materials of the needles may deform/break during injection.
The needles arrangement across the device.
Leakage of agent from the device
Interference between hollow needles motion and agent motion
Attachment/assembly of the microneedling cartridge.
