Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Analysis
All analysis is done.
Design
Final design was made for take up spool.
Fabrication
Began fabrication of all aluminum plates and mounts
Take-up spool
Motor mounts are done and need to CNC with tom for press fitting sealed bearings
will be done Tuesday 5/28/19
Shaft mounts are made
Load-cell assembly
Shaft mounts are made for idler pulleys
Have u-bar and aluminum stock for load cell mounts (
will be done Tuesday 5/28/19
Primary Spool mount
Shaft and rod are here
will be done Tuesday 5/28/19
Welding will be done by Steve
Servo guide
PP is ordered, just need to machine guide
Aluminum holder for servo is made
Tests
Subsystem tests are completed
Need to do final full system tests which will be done later this week after all parts are machined
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Made final design of take-up spool
Figure 1: Annotated CAD of take-up spool final design
Take-up spool has the option to remove the cap with locking pins which allows for removal of Nafion tubing
Figure 2: CAD showing removable cap functionality of take-up spool.
All parts for mechanical assembly and electronics parts have been ordered, or sent for ordering to Roxanne
Designed enclosure for microcontroller and wires as shown below
Figure 3: Annotated CAD of designed electronics enclosure.
Began machining final mechanical components as outlined in fabrication overview above.
Main take-away:
Plan to finish all machining as follows:
Aluminum plates: 5/29/19
Polypropylene parts: 5/30/19
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Finish machining as outline above (entire team)
Implement load-cell calibration routine (anthony/pat)
Implement control framework (anthony/pat)
Final testing (entire team)

Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Concern over enclosure and clean up the wiring
Addressed this issue by designing enclosure and ordering microfit connectors to segment wiring
Report comments:
Wants us to consider the difference in length tracking with varying thickness of the tubing
Will discuss further and possibly introduce calibration routine
Add data from final testing and different sources of spooling
Update captions on bottom of figures for the website
Ved comments
Abstract needs to focus on design solution and how it performed
Will update this after final design is implemented and tests are conducted
Deliverables include website and report
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
No comments from other students since last week (will update when peer reviewed paper is returned)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Control implementation
Have designed controller and know how to implement it, just want to make sure it works properly on final design
Resources or Information Required but not Available
