Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Analysis
Completed a heat transfer conduction analysis
Design
Virtually finished
Moving onto building
Fabrication
Finished most of the fabrication for our final structure
Tests
Testing the stepper motors
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Items acquired/came in
HDPE
Leather
Stepper motors
Force sensing resistor
Ordered items
14" x 14" baking sheet
Fabricated most of the structure
Walls
Linkages
Brackets for motors
Have motors connected to breadboard
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Cure final mattress (Johnson, Daniel, Stephanie)
Finish fabricating (Daniel, Allen, Stephanie)
Work on motor stepper control (Johnson)
Work on temperature control (Daniel, Allen)

Likes the idea of having a quadrant of the big mattress with the heaters
Will cure mattress this week with everything complete
Will the wires come from side or top of silicone?
Will cure mattress with the wires ideally going straight down
Rebound (skin) will cover the entire mattress like a bed sheet
Will the motors and the panels hold the mattress?
Did a torque analysis
Final review presentation will potentially be on Wednesday, and being around 3:00-3:30 pm

A lot on your plate
I like the 4 panel design, but is there a way to simply the mechanical actuation
Each panel has 1 degree of freedom
Each panel independent of one another
Do you have any temperature plots to show
Will have plots once we create the entire mattress
You spent a lot of time on fabricating the skin -> make sure to go into detail for your report and poster
Have begun documenting steps to making skin
Are there design alternatives to steppers
Look into servo motor
The price of servo motors was too much per motor
Decided to go ahead with the stepper motor
Student Comments from Last Presentation and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (2/29/2012)
Will baby fall off? Should you have a wall to prevent baby from falling out?
Dr Kim does not want walls on the final prototype
Rhythmic moving -> how?
Will use time stepper motors
Will the memory foam burn at the heating temperature?
No, the silicone will prevent that from happening
Servo motors might be the way to go
Looked into servos and found them to be too expensive
Risks and Areas of Concern
Time
Will we be able to finish everything?
Coding
Motors work?
Get temperature control working?
Resources or Information Required but not Available
None at the moment
Schedule
Describe upcoming milestone
Have final prototype finished
Structure done
Working motors with circular wave motion
Working temperature control
Update Gantt chart.
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Arduino Mega & Protoshield: 72.44
14" x 14" baking sheet: 18.34
Remaining Budget: 480.06 - 90.78 = 389.28
