Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Completed calculations to determine selected test materials
Currently designing test bed
Waiting for orders and samples to arrive
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Contacted silicone company, and have samples on the way
Contacted ballistics gel company
Ordered our heating source
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Test silicone (Johnson)
Experiment with different filler material (Stephanie)
Order heating source items (Daniel)
Decide on structure material (Allen)
Decide on best temperature measuring tool (Marwan)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Currently, there is nothing retaining heat for babies; want a heat reservoir of some sort
We are looking into Z-Flo and ballistics gel and memory foam as a heat reservoir/filler material
No negative to having babies on saddles; babies are flexible
Taken it into design consideration
See how material feels on heating source/See how it feels after heating
Waiting for equipment to come in to perform this test
What’s the lightest weight, heat reservoir we can use?
Going to find density once testing equipment is set up
Balance weight and heat retention: Consider hospital environment; Easy to move around
Considering weight of material into design
Filler material
Want something that rebounds to a set point (i.e. memory foam)?
Or something that doesn’t (i.e. Z-Flo)?
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Calculate the amount of the power required to maintain temperature of baby.
=> 4.84W for 5 minutes of heat.
Suggested that we should compare this calculations to existing incubators
=> will get ask sponsor at the next meeting
Risks and Areas of Concern
Time constraint for silicone selection
Deterioration of filler material
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Equipment to measure temperature
Product information for Z-Flo padding
Schedule
Describe upcoming milestone
Decide on materials and have them ordered
Finalize decisions on skin material, filler material, heating source, and structure material after some analysis and tests
Once items are decided upon, place order
Update Gantt chart.
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Arduino = $22.95
Heat strips = $73.21
Thermistors = $52.53
Budget left = 1500 - 148.69 = $1351.31
Progress on Report and Webpage
Report guidelines have yet to be posted on class website
Began setting up webpage
