Gantt Chart
Project Objectives
Concisely list and prioritize the project objectives and constraints
High Priority Objectives
Skin-like material
Temperature control/source
Second Priority Objectives
Response to baby movement
Response to baby temperature
Incline position
Auditory
Emulate heart beat and breathing motion
Other Constraints and Issues
Unit Size (36 inches) and weight (10-20lbs)
Support a 500g to 3 kg load
Easy to clean
Avoid harmful materials (toxicity, allergy, etc…)
Prolonged operation (up to 24 hours)
WOW Design Solution
Smart system that is completely responsive to the baby's needs
Risk Reduction Strategy
We will research different materials that are skin-like for use on the unit, e.g. silicone, polymide and ballistics gel. Material should not conduct electricity but will be responsive to temperature control. It should not deviate too far from human body temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent skin damage. It needs to be manageable for easy molding into desired contour. It needs to be durable and easy to clean.
The unit has to be able to carry a load up to 3 kg. The angle of incline of the unit may vary affecting the the type of harness needed to securely keep the baby in place. if the incline is to be adjustable, we need to ensure that it will remain stable with the max load on.
Intermediate Milestones
Week 2: Finish testing materials, select materials for first prototypes, and decide on design
Week 3: Fabricate first design and start on second design
Week 4: Finish a half-scale model with acrylic
Week 6: Have functioning prototype for testing
Week 7: Research completed on sensors for mechanical response, and parts ordered for testing
Week 9: Complete testing of sensors and incorporate it into designs
Week 10: Finished design
