Team 4 – Linkabit Noise Reduction
Week 9 Status Update
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Fabricating final design
Testing at the end of the week
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Machined all 3 chevrons
Fabricated main duct
Obtained pressure sensing equipment
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Fabricate lobes for the main duct
Complete all welding on 3 chevrons and 2 main ducts
Map noise output with all suppression configurations

Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Comment: Where do all the flow figures come from? (2/27)
Action: The figures are screenshots of our flow simulation from SolidWorks.
Comment: Include 2D picture of final design and include lobes in main duct (2/27)
Action: Finalized CAD of lobes.
Student Comments
Comment: How much sound suppression is desired?
Action: As much as possible, but being able to hold a conversation is ideal.
Comment: What else of the chevron can affect the flow?
Action: The serrations can be bent to penetrate more of the bulk flow.
Comment: What is used to measure the sound?
Action: We use a sound pressure level meter that reads the decibel output of the turbine.
Comment: Great flow simulations!
Risks and Areas of Concern
Turbine operation
Breakout noise
Cycle fatigue (fatigue life) – low risk
Back pressure limitations
Schedule
Finish fabricating main duct with lobes (Wednesday)
· Finish fabricating pivot mount for diffuser (Wednesday)
· Test all suppression configurations (Thursday)
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
$170 – Stainless steel tubes (chevrons, lobes, main duct)
$2870 - Remaining
