Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
We have received both Ebay brakes and we have tested their ability to lock our system. Components for two different vertical movement prototypes were ordered and we will be choosing between a rack and pinion and a lead screw design. Final completed design for suspension system has been created on Solidworks.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Electromagnetic brake risk reduction testing successful
Chose and purchased components for vertical lift system
Chose and purchased stepper motor and driver
Modeled entire system on Solidworks
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Choose one vertical lift system (Team)
Begin fabrication of vertical lift (Alan, Janak, Frank)
Continue fabrication of arm (Dan, Young)
Design operating table clamp and laryngoscope holder (Team)

Functional requirement should be "to prevent inadvertent movement" not "safety lock to prevent inadvertent movement" (5/10 Proof of Concept Pres.)
One brake could possibly lock both joints - timing belt
For the rack and pinion system, building a gearbox requires high precision since forces between gears can spread shafts apart
Reference source of equations for analysis

Consider another name for "kill switch" (5/10 Proof of Concept Pres.)
Make presentation shorter/more concise
Red labels on black background are hard to see
More gears add more parts that may possibly jam or fail (higher risks)
Counterweight to help with weight distribution/moment
Measurement tic-marks on the side of the assembly to show the height of the equipment (for final external casing)
Not important where the purchased parts are from
Risks and Areas of Concern
Choosing one vertical component to drive our system
Ensuring all powered components can run off of one power supply

Describe upcoming milestone
Update Gantt chart.
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Spent $500, $1000 remaining though we have put a purchase order in for approximately $500-$600.
Progress on Report and Webpage
Front page is being updated with final design rendering.
