Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
We have completed a prototype that demonstrates the range of motion and we have begun fabricating the housing for the electromagnetic brakes we ordered. Design for vertical motion is being finalized and will be purchased by the end of the week.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Electromagnetic brakes were purchased and should arrive within the next week. A ball joint was purchased and has arrived for our laryngoscope clamp. A prototype of the suspension system has been completed and presented to our sponsor for feedback. We are also receiving a free pedal controller sample within the next couple weeks.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Electromagnetic brakes implemented into housing and assembled into arm (Dan, Young)
Finalize solidworks model of entire design (Team)
Begin fabrication of vertical lift components (Alan, Janak, Frank)
Purchase the vertical lift components (Alan, Janak, Frank)

There are no cables/side mounts on the laryngoscopes used for the thyroplasty procedure as there are on the Pentax laryngoscopes given to us by our sponsor. This will be addressed in the laryngoscope holder (4/30 in person)
Laryngoscope controls should always face the surgeon during movement. Our design will be flexible enough to be adjusted to the correct position to allow for easy access to controls (possibly tilt the laryngoscope holder).
Draping and cable connection on the system can be accomplished after final design is completed
The range of vertical motion will be minimal - we do not need to be concerned about a range more than 10 inches.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Keep options open with many different concepts for designs (4/25 in person)
Research vertical motion design and do calculations for selection of a lead screw
Print out spec sheets and design guides for lead screw
Purchase brakes for risk reduction (ebay)
Design for manufacturability
Look at Shigley for different types of clutches
No aluminum on aluminum - use bushings
