Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
We are currently in the design phase. Since we were able to define the system after our operating room visit, we have a better idea of what our constraints will be and what the design will entail. The team is choosing between a few different design ideas for the X and Y motion.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
The team was able to see an operating table and the relative position of the laryngoscope with respect to the operating table rails. Measurements of the operating table were taken and discussed with the sponsor.
New design ideas using different types of kinematics
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Individual Component analysis will be completed for the major components of the suspension system. (Team)
Preliminary designs will be narrowed down and final design will most likely be chosen (Team + Sponsor)
Receive laryngoscopes from vendors (Sponsor)
Research for purchasing components (Team)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
User interface can either be foot pedal control (similar to Da Vinci Machine) or directional pad control. The team is looking into both options and which will be most cost efficient and sanitary.
Overall not too many questions, sponsor is enthusiastic in going forward with the project
Laryngoscopes have arrived and the team will be able to use them going forward in our design
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Look at different kinematics - proposal of new designs
Real estate - measurements of operating table were taken
Request for video - asked sponsor and he will be provided a video of the setup, video of procedure is still pending
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Look at ball screws for control and precision (all comments from Risk Reduction presentation input)
Show the results of prototype building clearly in presentations
Make the scope itself detachable using clips or clamps that screw into place
Accuracy after numerous runs (consistency)
Thyroplasty explanation unclear in risk reduction presentation
Explain old designs and how new design is superior
Risks and Areas of Concern
Differences in rail positions for operating tables could pose as a problem in our design
Rail must support weight of suspension system (need to contact table manufacturer)
Headrest/table tilt could cause moment on the system
Safety locking mechanism to prevent movements
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Laryngoscopes to use for design and analysis (should be given to team during next sponsor meeting)
Video of procedure to determine need for fine adjustments
Schedule
Describe upcoming milestone
Update Gantt chart.
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
None of the budget has been used
Progress on Report and Webpage
Webpage is being updated and individual component analysis will be done by the end of the week.
