Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Linear slider design had been built
Tests show the linear slider need improvement
Solutions to jamming and size issues have been planned
Scissor jack design is back in consideration if other solutions aren't plausible
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Built linear slider prototype
Tested linear slider prototype
Began planning possible solutions for problems with prototype
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Decide on what design to pursue given current slider issues - Team
Build updated prototype - Travis and CJ
Design safety mechanism for prototype - Justin and Stephanie
Complete first draft of report - Team
Complete first draft of website - Team
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Our sponsor was unable to meet with us this past week.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Notes from meeting with Dr. Delson on 04/24/2012
Have a prototype built and ready to demo for the next meeting
Linear motion is not undesirable but linear sliders may not be good
Make sure we completely understand the linear slider problem from MAE 3
Look into the possibility of selling two clamps together so that replacing the IV bag would not have to be done on the pole
Report:
Add figures and numerical values to the background section
Have an actual upper limit for pressure
Give the range of times in which we would like the device to operate
Explain why we would like to speed up the time - is there a medical benefit or is it purely for convenience?
Clearly distinguish between low flow rate and pressurized IVs
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
A couple of other students have proposed attaching the device to a hospital bed instead of an IV pole. The team has been discussing this and will talk to our sponsor about it.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Areas of Concern:
Determining the best course of action for the next prototype
Finding a good way to determine the best safety mechanism for our design
Resources or Information Required but not Available
None

Progress on Report and Webpage
Background, problem definition, obejctive and societal impact have been drafted.
Remaining sections will be drafted this week.
Reports and Internal are up to date but the other sections are still in progress.
